REVIEW

This album will always stand as a testament to how great this band was, and having viewed it recently for the first time in years, I almost forgot how heart wrenching it was. From the beginning of the concert, you can plainly see that Layne Staley is high, even as the rest of the band jokes around and plays it off, it still comes off as tragic, but that didn’t stop Layne from delivering a booming vocal performance. This Unplugged session was undoubtadly one of, if not the, best Unplugged’s that MTV has ever put together. The rest of the band, including Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez, and special guest Scott Olsen, is unbelieveably tight knit. The set list is just about perfect (except there are no songs from “Facelift”) including renditions of “Got Me Wrong”, “Would?”, “Rooster”, “Frogs”, “Heaven Beside You”, “Nutshell”, and “Brother”, but the best here are the heart wrenching “Sludge Factory”, “Angry Chair” (both of which Layne messes up, even though with “Sludge Factory” it is kind of humerous), and “Down in a Hole” and “Over Now” are enarly impossible not to draw a tear over

Ok with great pleasure and honor I bring you my friends, this great Costa Rican band, they kick ass, great rock and roll, with some grunge and post hardcore influences. They relesed their album only on Vinyl with digital download in Flac, to honor the bands name Cabeza de Vinil (“Vinyl Head” in English) so give it a try I think you’ll be sourprised with this record.

Review

…I’m gonna tell ya ’bout _cool_/in one easy lesson! GO!” Yep…had to quote that, the beginning of this album’s “Sunglasses After Dark”, as that song really sums up the mad, crazed, dark-as-a-Memphis-alley-at-midnite badness of this amazing slab of rockabilly psychosis. There is nothing like the sound that is the Cramps, and for me, this album distills that cross of swampwater, moonshine, and nitro down to a dangerous and unstable musical substance, captured live like a crazed animal in these tracks cut at the legendary Sun Studio. Echo machines go mad, drums thud like someone pounding the furniture into matchsticks, and guitars slice through the speakers like some meat-saw-wielding mad butcher as Lux Interior howls, wails, spits like fury, and…yeah, tells you ’bout _cool_. Truly the sound of the South going horrifically wrong with total J.D. madness, rockabilly is supposed to be ‘bad music’…but this is the baddest of the badness! It’ll make you put a voodoo 8-ball gearshifter in your _life_! BUY!

Ministry – Sphinctour (2002)

For reasons unknown, years after the actual Sphinctour came to an end in ’96, Ministry released this amazing live album, consisting mainly of songs off “Psalm 69″ and “Filth Pig”, and it couldn’t get any better. The only way this album could possibly get any better is if it were either 2-cds, or if the boys would have at least included “So What” or “Stigmata” (featured on the DVD). That or if they would have waited and maybe some song from “Dark Side Of The Spoon” would have been on here. All that aside, this is all the amazing intensity that is Ministry live. Even people who don’t like “Filth Pig” won’t be able to enjoy the live versions of such great tunes like “Crumbs” and the title track, but for some reason the guys felt the need to make “Lava” 8 minutes long and it gets a little annoying in the middle. Oh well… From the opening track the classic “Psalm 69″ all the way down to the slow, somber, rather depressing rendition of “The Fall”, this is one live release that is guaranteed to take your breath away, I promise. Nothing tops the version of “Thieves” on here. I can’t imagine the f*cking pit, man. If you’re new to Ministry and love live albums this is definitely one cd I would highly recommend to you, and for all the hardcore Ministry fans, we’ll all love this to death as well.

With a psychedelic brand of soul and a vocal style that drew comparisons to Otis Redding, the 300-400 pound Baby Huey was set to break out of the Chicago scene with the release of his debut album. Unfortunately, his weight and taste for drugs resulted in a fatal heart attack that prevented him from seeing the release of the disc. Featuring Curtis Mayfield’s Hard Times and Mighty Mighty Children plus a cover of Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, Baby Huey’s lone album (recorded in 1970 and released in 1971) has become a sought-after collectible among soul fanatics.

Oiganlo y punto!

Comment:
The Pretenders are a band that’s easy to take for granted, yet every time one of their excellent singles–and there are lots of them–hits the radio, the response is invariably, “Oh my God, I love this song.” When you begin to peel back the layers of the band itself–the alternately jangly and punchy guitars, the hard-as-nails rhythm section, and Chrissie Hynde’s impeccable songcraft and unbelievably sensual alto–it’s easy to make a case for the Pretenders as one of the best American rock bands of the post-’60s pop landscape.
PIRATE RADIO, the comprehensive, long overdue Pretenders box set, helps support that case. Spread out over four CDs are studio recordings, demos, live material, and alternate versions recorded between 1979 and 2005. In addition to the obvious inclusions (“Brass in Pocket;” “Back on the Chain Gang”), the full range of the Pretenders is represented, from rip-it-up rockers (“Precious”) to gorgeous balladry (“2000 Miles”). And, finally, a bonus DVD of television appearances makes the case complete.
This set is their first ever boxed set featuring over 5 hours of career-spanning music on 4 CDs, including many previously unreleased cuts, plus a bonus DVD including never-before-released performances from 1979-1995 including hot early BBC Top of the Pops performances, and material from NBC’s The New SHow and the 2003 Montreux Jazz Festival.

Keith Richards – Stoned Stone

Recorded live in Buenos aires on November 11th, 1992.

Everything has been said abouth Keith Richards, the guy who, in 1959, started playing guitar at Sidcup Art College and, luckylly for all of us, met Mick Jager on the train journey from Dartford to Sidcup to define what nowdays we call rock.
It took me quite a while to get the album presented here. It contains an extraordinary performance I have the chance to see in Buenos Aires in 1992.Rumours said that the concert had been recorded but it was not until last year that I actually got the recording. The sound quality is excellent and comes directlly from the soundboard.
At that time, Keith was in great form, travelling around the world with his “Main Offender” tour and his band The Ex-Pensive Winos. This double bootleg cd contains outstanding versions of somo classics like “Time Is On My Side” or “Give Me Shelter” and, of course, all the best Richard’s solo career hits.
Just start listening to the opening track “Take It so Hard” and you too will start wishing eternal life to this guy.
Enjoy it!.
